Hi All,

I'm stuck! I've got my new cam package and who I wanted to install it now can't..
I really wanted to have it in before the yearly pilgrimage to Summernats.. Of course at this time of year workshops all around are just laughing at me when I ask.

Anyone got any suggestions or know a competent backyarder looking for work?
I've got all the parts just need some time and labour.
I haven't done a cam before but are reasonably good on the tools so maybe just man up and do it myself?

Car is a VU SS currently with usual otr mafless etc..

Cheers
Adam.

Hey Adam.
Cam isn't all that hard to do, I havent done one for 5yrs or so now - but I have the dowels (that you need to hold the lifters up) at my house if you need to borrow them. I can ask my mechanic mate if he is comfortable doing this for you - he may be able to fit this in before Nats.
What size cam is it?? if it is a largish cam, then you may need to think about injectors & a fuel system - this could be hard to organise with short notice.
Once the cam is in - you will also need to get the car tuned...
Obviously a few things to think about - but it is still manageable to get this in before Nats.

LOL Gold @ You can do it.

Thanks Ben. I'll keep eye open next day or two for a mechanic but if all else fails I'll do it myself so the dowels would be great cheers.

The cam is 235/240 @111 so fairly meaty. I'd hope this would run OK with standard fuel system as it's going to stick with the 241 heads for the short term so that will hold it back a bit. Once the CNC heads go on might need to do the fuel system but I didn't expect too much issue at ~300rwkw. Not sure.

Tuning isn't a problem, I have HP Tuners and Brett owes me for moving his house TWICE (I'll continue to use that as leverage for a few more years yet)

mate, I feel your pain! I'm having exactly the same problem trying to get my car finished this time of year, it's a pain in the arse! (see my engine build thread). I wouldn't touch it until all the workshops are back, if you do it could snowball and you'll have no car to take to Summernats!

Yeah true mate but if i cant take it I wont cry. I'm not planning on entering it into any comps etc.. So i'll give it my best to get it all done in the mean time.

Just found out as of about 30mins ago the tailshaft centre bearing is shot as well so add that too the list of things-to-do! oh joy.

good luck with it then, change one thing like a cam and the domino effect kicks in! still a slim chance I could have my car ready for Summernats, might have to use the drive to Canberra for running it in!
